Counseling approach and style
Working from a solution-oriented/client directed approach, I assume that each person has the innate ability to effectively deal with most situations. I will work with you to determine what changes you are endeavoring to make, the strengths you already posses, areas for growth, and action plans to follow. It is important to stress that I will partner with you in your change process, not direct your life or make judgment calls on what is right or wrong for you. Finally, it is important for you to understand that the success of your work depends on what you do outside of my office, not just what you talk about inside it.
I am very present during our counseling sessions. I believe in and enjoy my work, so I give you my full attention and resources, no matter how difficult your circumstances. Your changes are designed to become second nature and long lasting. My presence is calm, casual and honest.

I believe that deep personal transformation is best achieved outside of managed care companies that limit both your privacy and the interventions available to you. I am in the process of moving away from managed care (insurance) and towards private-pay clients only. Many successful, established mental health professionals do not join or remain on insurance panels for three reasons. First, the in-network filing process usually requires a significant breach of client confidentiality. To meet the requirements for in-network reimbursement, I must submit an official client diagnosis and an ongoing progress report, treatment plan, etc. This requires me to divulge personal information about clients, which then becomes part of his or her permanent medical record (potentially driving up client insurance rates and creating problematic 'pre-existing conditions'). Second, there is a great deal of paperwork to submit for in-network benefits, which takes time and energy away from my focus on your needs. Third, insurance panel fee schedules are well below national averages, and are therefore not ideal for established professionals. Because of these considerations, the majority of mental health professionals who choose to become in-network providers are either just beginning their clinical practice, have only a part-time practice, or find it difficult to sustain their full-time practice client load.
I currently accept only Value Options, Magellan, and Medicaid, as well as private pay clients. Other insurance companies may offer out-of-network coverage. I will provide you with information necessary to submit your claim for reimbursement, however you are responsible for the session fee at the time of service. Your insurance provider will then reimburse you per your coverage and benefits plan. Not all mental health services are covered by some out-of-network programs, make sure to check your benefits first.
Usually NOT covered by insurance companies.
