About Jonathan

Jonathan F. Anderson is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Board Approved Supervisor of LPC-associates with over 20 years of experience in professional counseling, management consulting, and personal consultation. He is the owner of Gate Healing, PLLC, a high-quality counseling center in Austin, TX. Jonathan is an avid musician, enjoys running around Zilker Park with his dog, Buddy, and studying neuroscience and philosophy/spirituality. In the past few years, he has become active in astrophotography, often participating in public star parties offered through Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Education

He earned his Master’s degree at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities’ Educational Psychology School specializing in the Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology (CSPP) program. CSPP is now the Counselor Education program and is ranked number 12 in the nation as a specialty by US News and World Report.

Solution-Focused training

During his tenure at an international Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Jonathan was fortunate to receive in-person training, clinical case consultations, and live supervision in the Solution-Focused/Brief-Therapy model by renowned pioneers and top-tier teachers, including Insoo Kim-Berg (creator of the Solution Focused model), Scott Miller, Ph.D., and Barry Duncan, Ph.D., among others.

Jonathan’s approach to effective psychotherapy was shaped to assume that people inherently possess the tools for success and happiness, and his role as a therapist is to help uncover and apply them in highly effective ways. This strengths-based approach promotes adaptation to reality by utilizing innate capabilities.

Management Consultant – Trauma Specialist

Jonathan is also a management consultant and trauma specialist. He has provided high-level management consultation to Fortune 500 companies and traveled nationwide to provide trauma counseling for companies experiencing major trauma. He has also developed and facilitated professional and public education courses on a variety of topics, including communication, stress, parenting, addiction, meditation, professional ethics, and cultural diversity.

Guest Author for Baba Ram Dass – 2010

in 2010, Jonathan had the honor of being selected by spiritual teacher Ram Dass to be one of only seven people in the country to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of his classic book, Be Here Now, and the release of his new book, Be Love Now. He shared both insight and his skepticism of some of the more fantastical stories found in spiritual and religious texts.

While the blog itself was taken down after the release of Be Love Now, you can read the contributions, including Jonathan’s, on the Wayback Machine Internet Archive of the Ram Dass Now blog.
