Jonathan F Anderson Counseling

Compassionate and Effective Therapy for Every Stage of Life

At Gate Healing Counseling, we work with people from all walks of life—parents, professionals, couples, families, and students.

Many of our clients are high achievers who bring drive, insight, and creativity to their personal and professional growth; but sometimes at a cost of becoming over-stressed.  We build on the strengths, helping you use the same qualities that support your success to create balance, resilience, and lasting fulfillment—without letting pressure and stress take over.

Reaching out takes courage, and we honor that by offering a collaborative counseling style that is down-to-earth, practical, and rooted in over 25 years of clinical experience, intuition, and compassion. You won’t find judgment or psychobabble here—just genuine conversation and evidence-based strategies designed to create meaningful, lasting change.

Meet Jonathan Anderson, LPC-s, LCMHC

Jonathan Anderson, founder of Gate Healing, PLLC, has been part of the Austin mental health community since the 1990s. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the esteemed University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

Jonathan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Texas Board Approved Supervisor. His advanced training includes the Gottman Method of Couples Counseling (Level 2)Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Counseling. He also earned advanced certification in Critical Incident Stress Management & Debriefing from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF), equipping him to support people and organizations navigating crises and high-stress situations.

Our Counseling & Therapy Approach

Jonathan’s style is conversational and interactive, making therapy approachable while still offering depth and insight. Some clients appreciate his clear, practical feedback, while others value the calm, supportive environment he provides. His approach combines mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and insight-oriented work to help clients recognize patterns, develop effective coping skills, and build long-term resilience.

Many of the people Jonathan works with are naturally driven high-achievers—professionals, creatives, students, and others who care deeply about doing well in life and relationships. He helps them channel that motivation toward personal balance, self-awareness, and lasting growth, without letting pressure or perfectionism take the lead.

For teens and college students, Jonathan creates a space to navigate academic expectations, social challenges, and questions about the future. Students who are goal-oriented or college-bound often find relief in learning how to manage stress and communicate more effectively at home and school. Parents frequently note how helpful it is to have their teens hear familiar guidance in a new and productive way.

For couples, Jonathan applies research-based Gottman Method strategies to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and deepen connection. For individuals, his trauma-informed approach offers a safe and grounded space to explore challenges, process experiences, and move forward with confidence and clarity.

Insight-oriented therapy is a deeper, exploratory approach that focuses on understanding underlying patterns, emotions, and beliefs that shape thoughts and behaviors. Because this process takes time, it often lends itself to longer-term work, allowing for meaningful self-discovery and lasting change. While some people find that just a handful of solution-focused counseling sessions address immediate concerns, many choose to continue therapy with Jonathan as their lives evolve. Psychotherapy isn’t just about solving problems—it’s also a space for reflection, growth, and adapting to new challenges. Insight-oriented therapy supports independence by equipping clients with the awareness and tools to handle life’s ups and downs with greater confidence and resilience.

Take the Next Step

Therapy is not only about solving problems—it’s about creating space for growth, clarity, and resilience. Whether you’re a high achiever managing pressure, a student navigating school stress, or someone simply seeking more balance in daily life, Gate Healing Counseling is here to help.
